Addingham Garden Friends

The Friends is a group of volunteers who look after the public gardens, grassy areas and planters in the village, and help to keep the environment clean and pleasant BUT we couldn't do this without the help and support (practical and/or financial) of Bradford M.D.C., Addingham Parish Council and many local organisations, charities and individuals.

For more information, or to offer help, contact Pat on 01943 830549.

Britain in Bloom 2012

Following Addingham's fantastic success in the 2011 Yorkshire in Bloom Competition (we were awarded a Gold Medal and First place in the group) we were invited to take part in the National Britain in Bloom competition, competing against the regional winners from all over the UK, from the Channel Islands to Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The Britain in Bloom judging will take place during the first week of August and the judges (from the Royal Horticultural Society) will be looking for:-

  • The best of good gardening - varied and appropriate planting, good maintenance of gardens and special areas of impact.
  • Care of the Environment - Use of bee and butterfly friendly plants, recycling, keeping streets and public areas clean and dealing with eyesores.
  • Community Participation - involvement of young people, support of local organisations and businesses.

We need YOUR help

WE hope that ALL VILLAGERS and BUSINESSES will:-

  • Do your best to make frontages and front gardens attractive, put out hanging baskets/planters visible from the street.
  • Keep pavements and corners swept and free from weeds.
  • Ensure that the village is free of litter and dog mess.
