The Future of Addingham

The UDP

The blueprint for the future of the area is The Unitary Development Plan for Bradford Metropolitan District. The present plan (link) contains no provision for large scale expansion of the village except that it does allocate the field behind the Sawmill (and below Bark Lane) as suitable for building in the future.

Over the years the village has expanded dramatically with the building of the Saints estate (St Paul's Rise etc.), Moor Park Estate, Orchard Estate, Street House Estate (Big Meadow Drive etc.), Sycamore Drive, Croft House Fold, Wells Close, Kilner’s Croft and other small developments.

Fortunately Main Street has been relatively untouched and developers’ attempts to build on Southfield (behind The Sailor and Burnside Mill) and Manor Garth have been thwarted by the UDP. There is provision in the UDP for future building on the First School site on Backbeck Lane and on the Acre Field south of Bark Lane.

Planning Applications (link).

Applications affecting Addingham are listed under Craven Ward.

The Parish Plan (link)

This is the village’s hopes for its future. It was drawn up by a group set up by the Parish Council and was formally adopted by The Parish Council before being accepted by the Keighley Area Planning Committee.

Pubs Re-opened

It was a sad day when two of our
village pubs closed almost at the
same time - The Fleece and
The Craven Heifer.
Now, The Craven Heifer has
re-opened under new management,
offering delicious Chinese cuisine,
and The Fleece has also re-opened.
Great news!
And what is more - the former
Good Food Shop, which has been
closed since the building collapsed,
is also re-opening soon as Frewin's Cafe
(during the day) and Bistro (evening.

Details will be added to our Pubs page
