High
Mill today has been converted into luxury housing as so
many other dales industrial / farming buildings. The history
of the mill goes back to the 14th century and probably earlier.
It was first mentioned as a corn mill in 1315. The Vavasours
in their land sale of 1619 sold the mill to John Greene,
and in 1713 the Greenes to George Myers,
Whose family in turn sold it to RichardSmith.
Richard Smith following John Cunliffe's lead added
a Worsted Spinning mill using Arkwright Waterframes to the
corn mill in 1787. This is the building of today. High Mill
went onto become a fully integrated mill with the introduction
of the Power Loom

.In
1869 the mill became part of the Lister empire and started
to spin and weave silk. In 1919 the water wheel was replaced
by a turbine and Northrop automatic looms were installed.
During WW1 Listers produced gun silks for use with cordite
and in WW2 parachute silks. The mill finally closed in
1953.
It then became a light engineering shop but was shut completely
in the early 1970's. It fell into disrepair but was renovated
into housing in the 1980's
